What is a Psychologist?
Psychologists are licensed health care professionals
who have special training and expertise to assess and treat emotional,
behavioral or interpersonal difficulties. Psychologists in Alberta
are chartered by the College of Alberta Psychologists under Government of Alberta
Legislation. To be licensed a psychologist must possess the minimum of a
Master's Degree in an applicable area of study, have provided 1600 hours of
psychological service under supervision and pass internationally recognized
accreditation exams.
Psychologists provide services in hospitals, schools, clinics,
correctional facilities, employee assistance programs and private offices.
Psychology can involve individuals, families
and groups, as well
as large organizations in government and industry. Psychologists engage in
research, practice and teaching across a wide range of topics with respect to
